Are you doing a reno at your house? More than just painting? At what stage of a renovation do painters from Blue Chip Painting typically come in? Are you replacing the floors, the counters, new trim and doors, refinishing kitchen cabinets, ripping out some walls? Depending on what you are doing, there is a right and wrong time to bring in the Surrey painters to do their job. If you bring them in too early, the other trades can damage too much of their work. If you bring them in too late, then they will be inefficient and must be concerned about furniture.

So, what is the right stage of a renovation to bring them in? One thing I can tell you about painters that differentiates us from many other trades, is that while the tiler can work in one room for a few days, and while the plumber can work in the bathrooms and kitchen for quite some time, painters, in a renovation scenario, are in every room, every day. To be efficient and keep costs down, much of the paint is applied by spray application which means everyone else needs to be out. If you can imagine paint getting sprayed inside a house, you wouldn’t want tile, toilets, counters, flooring, etc… to get installed at the same time. It would be a mess; paint would be on everything!

My recommendation is that you have the Surrey painters in at two different intervals. In most renovation scenarios there is going to be a lot of new drywall. So, in the first stage of a renovation, the painters will come in when there is no flooring and the drywaller has finished his work. The painters’ job here is to spray primer onto the new drywall. Next, he sands the surfaces, applies paint to the ceilings and often a first coat of paint on the walls. Once this is completed, you are free to have your floor, trim, doors, and everything else installed.

The second interval that Surrey painters will come in will be the last time. You want to bring them in at a stage in a renovation when everything has been installed so there won’t be any further bashing into the walls. It is expected that other trades will bash into things, causing damage. So, it is wise to bring the painters in right near the end so that nicks and dings in the walls can be patched and the finish coats can be applied.

Before bringing them in, however, I highly recommend that you cover the fields of your floors. In fact, you should do this right after they have been installed. With many trades coming through the house to do their jobs, that’s a lot of shoes to walk on your new floor. Ram Board is ideal for this. You can buy it at most hardware stores and paint stores. Leave about 6 inches from the baseboards. Good Surrey painters will mask that remaining part of the floor and spray the paint onto the trim to give you a beautiful, smooth finish.

At this stage of a renovation, all that should remain to be done after the painters have finished everything, should be to bring in the construction cleaners and the electricians to put the face plates on over the outlets.
