Are you having the inside of your house painted? Are you wondering how to prepare for your interior painters in Surrey? There are a number of things you can do that will help the project run smoothly and efficiently. Let me try help you with that.

Five Things You Can Do to Prepare For your Interior Painters in Surrey, BC.

Space

As someone who has been painting for over twenty years, I can tell you that the most common thing to work around is stuff. Not every room in the house is the same size, so working around things can present a challenge.

If you can imagine a painter in a bedroom painting some walls, he will need room to put a step ladder to cut in at the ceiling. He will also need room roll paint onto the walls. To be efficient, and do a good job, painters attach an extendable pole onto the end of the roller handle. When the pole is fully collapsed, the combined length of the pole and the handle is about three feet long. That means that there needs to be a minimum of three feet between the walls and the bed, desk, couch, etc. The more room the better.

All this to say that if you are having a room painted that is jam packed with stuff, painters find it very helpful if much of the that stuff can be moved into the garage or into another room that doesn’t have as much stuff in it.

Artwork, Small Items, and Breakables

Aside from large items, such as beds and couches, there are smaller items to consider. Often, the insurance that interior painters in Surrey, BC carry won’t cover damage to artwork. It is advisable that you take care of moving your artwork yourself and store it somewhere else where the painting isn’t taking place.

Likewise with lamps, picture frames, glassware, and anything else that can be boxed up and moved somewhere else, is advisable.

Bookshelves, Cabinets, Hutches

If you have some large pieces of furniture that you would like help from the painters to move, it is a good idea to make them lighter. Unless they can be slid across the floor without any fear of scratching, then it is advisable to remove books from bookshelves, china from hutches, etc… This way they can be lifted and moved so the floor doesn’t get scratched, and nothing will tip over and break inside. Although we are used to moving large furniture, preparing for Interior painters in Surrey by emptying them these items out, saves a lot of time, and the more precautions that can be taken, the better.

Pets

The other day, we were painting the interior of a customer’s home. She owned a small, older dog, and she was confident that her dog wouldn’t get in the way. Sure enough, when we had left the room, the dog stepped in one of our paint trays, and got paint on her paws.

Fortunately, paints these days are all water-born and clean up with water, and we noticed it soon enough that the paint came off easily. But if we hadn’t noticed until later, the dog could have walked all over the house and tried to lick the paint off, which wouldn’t be good.

So, if you have pets, I recommend that you keep them in a part of the house that isn’t currently being painted.

Colours

Of course, what good would it be to prepare for the painters if they don’t have any paint to work with. The number one thing that you can do to prepare for your interior painters in Surrey is to finalize your paint colour choices ahead of time. Once the painting has begun, the painters need to know all the colours that they are working with so that they can efficiently tackle the project.

A good painter will be able to tell you what colours are in style and put up some test patches for you to help you make your decisions.
